NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UMNS) — United Methodists are invited to participate in an online survey identifying their 10 favorite hymns to help the United Methodist Publishing House and the United Methodist Board of Discipleship analyze and plan for congregational singing resources and identify changes and trends in musical styles. The selections may come from the United Methodist Hymnal and/or The Faith We Sing. The survey also asks participants to select up to 10 of their least favorite hymns and songs and also the titles that should have been included. In addition, participants will respond to five geographic questions.
Children's Sermon Focuses on Heros

Kids learn about the greatest hero in history, and how it relates to our everyday heros.

On Sunday, October 14, there was a special Children's Sermon about heros. Ted spoke about our everyday real life heros like parents, doctors, police and fire fighters. To help with the talk, several volunteers from the Montverde Fire Department were on hand to talk with the children. Ted then talked about the most important hero ever - Jesus. He discussed how Jesus saved each of us from the sin we commit every day and how we can look up to him as much as we do our other daily heros.

Following the Children's Sermon, all the kids (including some over the age of 30...) went outside for a Fire Safety demonstration by the volunteers. This was a terrific sermon and learning experience for the kids!

Team Jamaica Returns!

Medical, optical and dental mission team returns to US with spiritually refreshing stories to share.

Dawn and Ted Eckbreth returned from their seven day mission trip to Jamaica March 3rd. Both are reported to be physically exhausted but “spiritually refreshed”. Dawn, Ted and the rest of “Team Jamaica” departed for Ocho Rios, Jamaica on February 24th. Dawn and Ted participated with a mission team formed through St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. The team had a professional staff of two doctors, one dentist, one dental hygienist and a support staff of nineteen other dedicated Christians. The professional staff performed routine medical examinations, tooth extractions and dental care while the support staff greeted the local people, fitted patients with reading glasses and dispensed prescriptions. The team had over seven hundred interactions with the Jamaican people in two churches located in Ocho Rios and Lauriston.

After working around the wonderful Jamaican people Dawn and Ted both have a new meaning of God’s love for all of us as their hearts were warmed by the smiles of the patients they served, as well as the compassion of the twenty plus volunteers from the two churches served by the team. The local volunteers were constantly attending to the teams needs by dispensing drinks and providing wonderful lunches that were savored by the team. The trip ended with an incredible dinner at the Madge Saunders Conference Center which was also the team’s base of operations during their stay in Ocho Rios.

Dawn and Ted will be sharing their experiences in detail at our service on March 25th.

Team Jamaica prepares for Mission Trip!

Team members will be treating patients for minor medical, dental and optical conditions.

Two of our parishioners, Ted and Dawn are accompanying a group from St. Luke’s United Methodist Church on a mission trip to Jamaica at the end of February. “Team Jamaica” consists of 23 people with varying degrees of expertise. The team will meet at Orlando International Airport at 5:00 AM on Saturday February 24, 2007 and fly to Montego Bay, Jamaica. Upon their arrival, the team will take bus transportation to the Madge Saunders Conference Center which is located outside of Ocho Rios. The team will spend their evenings at the center and have breakfast and devotionals in the morning before departing for their destinations. The team consists of two groups. One group will go to St. Andrews, which is located near Ocho Rios, and the other group will go to Lauriston, which is located in the mountains south of Ocho Rios. Both teams will be performing the same duties at their respective locations. Team members will be treating patients for minor medical, dental and optical conditions. Team Jamaica anticipates treating 150 to 180 patients per day at each location. The excitement has been building for some time now as the team has met several times to sort medications, delegate responsibilities and bond as a team. Ted and Dawn can’t wait to get there and get their hands into Gods work. There will be a special church service to commission the team at the 9:30 AM contemporary service at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church on February 18, 2007. Donations from MUMC members and friends have helped make this trip possible for Ted and Dawn. Ted and Dawn have assured us that this is the first of many mission trips in which they plan to participate.

The Administrative Board of Montverde United Methodist Church agreed to be the home of the new South Lake Women's Choir knowing the group would probably outgrow the fellowship hall someday. What no one could have predicted was that the group would outgrow that space after only one rehearsal.

Carlene Loss and Becky Elswick are members of the church and were at that first rehearsal along with a dozen other women who love to sing. The a cappella group will be singing various styles of music such as barbershop, vocal jazz, gospel and doo wop.

Rehearsals are Tuesday evenings at 7:00pm right here at the church. New members are welcome! For directions to the church, click here.
